Thoughts from Alan Sitomer ( author and blogger)

From The next generation...standing on our shoulders

"More people in the 20th century read Shakespeare than any ever did in the 17th or 18th or even 19th centuries combined. And why? Because of technology.

And the thing is, for me, this illuminates the value of writing. Why? Because writing forces me to think and the thought above is a thought I'd never held before. It came to me through deeply ruminating about the impact of technology on today's kids and classrooms." ( Alan Sitomer)

You can find Alan Sitomer at the English Companion Ning and on Twitter. I encourage you to find out more about what he has to say on the topic of writing and technology and the classrooms of today.

All we have to fear is fear itself....or cell phones in the classroom...

Ask yourself this...

Are you a teacher now in the 21st Century?

How willing are you to use not only the technology available to you  in your classroom, but use something like say a cell phone or smart phone in your teaching? What is stopping you? Have you tried it? Do you have a Smart-board in your classroom at this very moment gathering dust? If your answer is yes...my question is WHY?
Don't we owe it to our students to give it a shot? We don't have anything to lose, and I don't think we can say it is a bad idea, or that it is bad teaching....unless we understand it,and try it. This was my motivation for joining Twitter...and I am bound and determined to keep learning and experimenting with as many forms of technology as I can to assist me in my teaching. Maybe I will get through to that one child who just didn't give a hoot before...
